What could happen if, when upgrading from CDH4 to CDH5, in order to reduce the amount of time required the upgrade, someone deleted some of the files needed for the upgrade before the upgrade had been successfully completed? 

This is a "what-if" question to help better understand the internal details of the CDH upgrade process.

The upgrade process is somewhat straight forward.  It took me about an hour to upgrade my cluster.  Just make sure you dot all your i's and cross all your t's before hand - ie follow the instructions.

You need to take your cluster offline to do the upgrade, so you won't have to worry about somebody deleting/modifying anything on the cluster during the upgrade process.
